Saladin Wins New Mexico Open

Champion Awarded $15,000 and Trophy in State’s Largest Golf Tournament

The Pueblo of Santa Ana – September 18, 2010 – Chad Saladin, from Rolla, MO, won the Santa Ana Star Casino New Mexico Open Saturday with an overall score of 198 and a total of 15-under par at the Santa Ana Golf Club on the Pueblo of Santa Ana in New Mexico.  He shot a five-under par 66 to regain the lead and win the tournament.  As the champion, Saladin received a $15,000 prize from the PGA Sun Country Section and a trophy for first place.   Dusty Fielding, from Richfield, UT, was awarded second place with an overall score of 200 and a total of 13-under par and received a monetary prize of $10,700.  Edward Loar, from Dallas TX, shot an overall score of 201 and a total of 12-under par for third place and a prize of $7,800. 

"The Santa Ana Star Casino New Mexico Open was a huge success.  With the winning score being 15-under par 198, Santa Ana Golf Course remained challenging but receptive to the players throughout the tournament,” said Roger Martinez, director of golf at Santa Ana Golf Club.  “With a field of 156 cut to 54 players going into Saturday’s final round, we saw many current and future tour professionals playing in the tournament."

In addition, Amateur Chandler Smith-Stetson, from Albuquerque, NM, was the only amateur to make the cut and play in the final round.  He finished with a seven-under par 206 and tied for 17th place.  As Smith-Stetson is not a professional, he received a trophy and gift card for $750 to be used in the Santa Ana Golf Pro Shop.

Considered one of the top 10 prizes for a state open golf tournament, the Santa Ana Star Casino New Mexico Open, the state’s largest golf tournament, had a purse this year of $100,000 with $15,000 awarded to the winner.  As Santa Ana Golf Club has been named one of best golf courses in the country by Golf magazine, the tournament took place between Thursday, September 16 and Saturday, September 18, 2010.
